Another significant step in the advancement of medical technologies with a partnership between Fourier Intelligence and UNSW Sydney
New South Wales, 16 November 2022 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been agreed upon and signed, promoting cutting-edge robotics that can impact lives worldwide.
Fourier Intelligence strives to consolidate the healthcare technology industry by collaborating with key experts across the globe. The team has formed many fundamental partnerships with researchers and clinicians worldwide.
Its MoU with the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney is a pivotal point for the group as it can propel the advancement of rehabilitation technologies to reach a higher potential.
A virtual signing ceremony was held to commemorate the partnership between Fourier intelligence and UNSW. The virtual ceremony was attended by Zen Koh, Co-Founder and Global CEO of Fourier Intelligence; Chen Onn Leong, Manager for Scientific Research; Taya Hamilton, Clinical Consultant, Oceanic Region from Fourier Intelligence; Professor Nigel Lovell, Scientia Professor, Head of the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering (GSBmE) and Director of Tyree Foundation Institute of Health Engineering (IHealthE), and Dr Thanh Nho Do, Scientia Senior Lecturer from UNSW Sydney.

The UNSW Medical Robotics Lab and other members from Prof. Lovell’s teams are developing state-of-the-art bio-inspired soft robotics, smart textiles, bionic systems, and telehealth, garnering attention from researchers and media worldwide.
“We believe collaboration lies at the heart of unlocking the full potential of this industry,” says Zen Koh, Co-Founder and Global CEO of Fourier Intelligence.
“We are proud to play a key role in driving this rapidly growing field. We are committed to working with Prof. Lovell and Dr Do and their teams to elevate patient experience and optimise the performance of the technologies to deliver positive impact.”
Prof. Lovell says: “This MoU will strengthen the capabilities for research translation within UNSW Engineering, Tyree IHealthE, and GSBmE to create innovative technologies around bionics and bio-robotics that are useful and impactful.”
Dr Do adds: “The forthcoming collaborative projects with Fourier Intelligence will enable us to bring new knowledge creation and scientific inventions from the research laboratory to marketplace.” By joining forces with the talent within GSBME and IHealthE, Fourier Intelligence will be able to investigate and explore how its advanced artificial intelligence technology and control systems can be integrated into the existing clinical devices. The aim is to provide technology that can be customised and individualised to provide effective and efficient therapy for patients.

About Tyree IHealthE
Our healthcare system needs to meet the demands of the 21st century. Tyree IHealthE exists to solve our most critical challenges – and improve health outcomes, locally and globally. Tyree IHealthE harnesses the considerable capabilities of UNSW Engineering and UNSW Medicine and Health. Powered by collaboration, Tyree IHealthE is an engine of discovery and research translation. We are currently establishing the Sydney Consortium for Improving Medicine with Innovation and Technology (SCIMIT). A highly successful initiative, originating in Boston, that brings together clinicians, technologists and industry, SCIMIT will identify unmet healthcare needs and provide a platform for the development of effective new medical technologies.
The uptake of these innovations into mainstream clinical practice is fast-tracked by our strong healthcare partnerships.

About UNSW Medical Robotics Lab
In the UNSW Medical Robotics Lab, our research is primarily in the development of Advanced Surgical Systems, Soft Robotics, Wearable Haptics, Soft Exoskeletons, Artificial Organs, Programmable Textile Muscles, Nonlinear Control, and other Medical Devices that contribute to enhance the human quality of life. Our lab is located at Level 1, E26 Biological Sciences South, the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UNSW, Sydney, Australia. The lab is a place where engineers, neuroscientists, and medical doctors work together to create advanced medical systems, wearable haptic devices, and soft robotic technologies. We design, fabricate, and control surgical robots, soft robotics, haptic devices, and advanced mechatronic systems in medicine more accurate, non-invasive, effective, and at low cost. We also patent our innovative ideas that enable us to transform them from the laboratory to commercial products. Our current major projects include flexible and miniature surgical systems for gastrointestinal cancer and cardiovascular disease treatments, soft robotics, wearable haptics, soft assistive devices, artificial organs, programmable textile muscles, and advanced control systems.
